Scientific Committee - Ian Bersten
Ian Bersten was born on 4th April 1939.
He completed his studies in economics graduating from the University of New South Wales, in Australia.
In the past, he managed a coffee roasting business.
His interest in the culture of coffee and tea has led him to put together one of the most important collections in the world, consisting of around 1800 antique pieces of extraordinary value.
He owns a rich library of antique books, too, (the most valuable in his possession dates back to 1682) and his wish to understand the world of coffee in its wider sense has brought him into contact with many of the top experts in the field. He devotes his time to the careful study of original sources of coffee related documents in English, French, Italian and German.
The result of his passionately meticulous research was the publication of an important book entitled Coffee Floats, Tea Sinks. (Helian Books, 1993).
